I went back and forth trying to decide which camera to buy for the sole purpose of recording my PXL 2000's output. As many fans of the PXL may already know...there's not a ton of info out there for these cameras. After various attempts w/ other camcorders, I finally decided on Aiptek's MPVR digital camcorder. In my opinion the MPVR is pretty much garbage in terms of optics and recording quality, I would say many cell phones would do a comparable job. My interest is in the AV/In the camera offers and the SD flash card as storage. At around $100 (cheaper on ebay) I think it's the best and most cost effective solution. In addition you don't need to build or buy an amp for a PXL signal boost.
Using the RCA Outs I installed on the PXL and the cable supplied with the MPVR cam, the PXL 2000 and the MPVR work like a dream. I added a large strip of velcro to the side of both cameras so the MPVR's LCD now works as the PXL's viewfinder.
The only downside is the .asf recording format. Using a mac I downloaded http://www.isquint.org, which converts my files to mpeg-4 format.

| For a little more, the Aiptek company released an HD product known as the Aiptek A-HD (not to be confused with the GO-HD) and it allows for TV out at 720 x 480 (D1) resolution. I don't know if its slightly better than the MPVR resolution but if the MPVR cannot be found in stores, that is another aiptek solution that will work. |
